My “Easy” Cancer, Part 6

Ten days passed. The postcard never came…

But the phone call did. It was a Friday, just before lunchtime.

Phone rings… Heart jumps… Caller ID reads my skin doctor’s name… I brace myself.

“Hi, Mister Peter. It’s Doctor so and so. Unfortunately…” and then something about squamous cell carcinoma. My heart sank and stomach churned.

And then they said something about it being “minimally invasive” and tending to be “readily treatable”. And, for a moment, I felt a deep sense of relief…

Until the doctor continued “although these things can be aggressive”.

And my knees turned to rubber.

I was given the name of a surgeon to call.

Have a nice day.
